- gooseberry/nellikka/amla-5-7
- grated coconut-1/4cup
- green chilly-3-5
- ginger-1/2tsp,finely chopped
- garlic-1clove
- shallots/small onion-3-4
- turmeric powder- a couple of pinches
- asafoetida-a pinch
- curry leaves-2 sprigs
- mustard seeds-1/2tsp
- fenugreek seeds- a pinch
- dry redchilly-2,halved
- salt -to taste
- oil- as required
Method:
- Remove seeds from gooseberry and chopped into small pieces.Add 1/4 cup water,turmeric and salt to this and cook gooseberries till soft.
- Grind grated coconut,one small onion,green chilles,ginger,garlic and a few curry leaves to a smooth paste.
- Now add this paste to the cooked Amla/Nellikka.Simmer for 5-7minutes until the sauce thickens or until the gooseberries are thoroughly cooked.Adjust the salt.
- Heat oil in a pan.Splutter mustard seeds,as they begin to pop,add fenugreek seeds,asafoetida/kayam,red chillies,chopped small onions and curry leaves and saute for few minutes until the small onions becomes slightly brown.
- Add this seasoning to the gooseberry gravy.
